A full-time Clinical Pharmacist role is available within a healthcare system’s Oncology Service at their Sussex Campus Hospital, supporting cancer patient care throughout treatment. This position focuses on optimizing chemotherapy treatment plans and supportive care through collaboration with oncologists and other healthcare professionals during day shifts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain collaborative practice programs with oncologists, focusing on supportive care for inpatient and outpatient chemotherapy patients.
  • Provide education and staff development to pharmacy staff, nursing, oncologists, and healthcare teams.
  • Act as an oncology subject matter expert by addressing drug information inquiries and reviewing care plans for guideline adherence.
  • Participate in rounds with Oncology Fellows, Nurse Practitioners, and Physicians to recommend, monitor, and adjust therapies based on national evidence-based guidelines and institutional policies.
  • Deliver patient-specific medication education using effective teaching methods for new oral and IV chemotherapy agents.
  • Review and update oncology care plans in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) to maintain accuracy and appropriateness.
  • Identify and resolve medication-related problems using clinical data.
  • Serve as a preceptor to pharmacy residents and students.
  • Engage actively in Oncology Service Line meetings to enhance safety and quality of cancer care.
  • Promote rational, cost-effective drug therapy emphasizing cost avoidance and savings in oncology medication use.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the pharmacy scope.
  • Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree with PGY-1 residency plus at least three years clinical pharmacy experience or PGY-2 residency (Oncology) or equivalent.
  • Licensed Pharmacist with Board Certification in Oncology.
  • Minimum three years hospital experience including three years clinical oncology training.
  • Preferred: Completion of PGY-2 ASHP residency or equivalent oncology experience with BPS oncology certification.
