A critical illness recovery hospital in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area is seeking an experienced Director of Pharmacy (DOP) to lead pharmacy operations within a high-acuity inpatient setting focused on long-term recovery for medically complex patients.

Facility Overview

This hospital provides specialized post-ICU care for chronically and critically ill patients requiring extended inpatient recovery. The pharmacy department plays a critical role in ensuring safe, effective, and compliant medication management throughout the continuum of care.

Key Responsibilities

As the pharmacy leader, you will report directly to the CEO and collaborate closely with clinical leadership teams. Responsibilities include:

Full clinical, operational, administrative, staffing, and financial oversight of the pharmacy department
Ensuring safe preparation and dispensing of all medications and pharmaceuticals
Maintaining compliance with The Joint Commission, CMS, and other regulatory standards
Managing the Adverse Drug Reaction (ADR) program
Developing and implementing staff training and education programs
Participating in quality assurance and drug utilization review initiatives
Monitoring patient medication therapy and clinical outcomes
Developing at least one clinically focused pharmacy service annually (e.g., pharmacokinetic dosing, pain management, patient counseling, or nutritional support services)
Driving continuous quality improvement initiatives
Providing medication education to patients and families


Minimum Requirements
Completion of all educational requirements for state pharmacist licensure
Active and unrestricted Pennsylvania Pharmacist License
Minimum of 3 years of hospital pharmacy experience within the last 5 years
BLS certification (if required by state regulations)


Preferred Qualifications
PharmD or BS Pharmacy with advanced degree or completion of hospital residency preferred
At least 1 year of prior leadership or managerial experience preferred
Board Certification and/or residency training strongly preferred
Strong background in hospital pharmacy operations, compliance, and clinical program development

This is a strong leadership opportunity for an experienced hospital pharmacist ready to oversee pharmacy operations in a critical care recovery environment with significant clinical and administrative responsibility.
