Alabama Area Information
Alabama is warm and sunny for the greater part of the year. Spring arrives early with the weather warming to the 60’s by March. Summer’s are generally in the 80’s reaching the 90’s and above. Snow is a rarity except in the mountains; a jacket will usually keep away the chill through November. Ushering in the spring of 2008 is the annual Spring Azalea Festival held in Mobile March1-April 30th. Alabama has the Mountains, the Metropolis, River Heritage and the Gulf Coast. Maybe you want the shopping, nightlife and activities of a metropolitan city. Or perhaps you’d prefer the slower pace of a quaint, small town be it in the mountains or on the river. Alabama has something for every type of travel pharmacist.
As for attractions Alabama is famous for its pier fishing located at the Guntersville pier in Guntersville or charter an inshore fishing boat from the A-Team in Mobile. If you are an architect buff you must visit the Frank Lloyd Wright Rosenbaum House Museum located in Florence. This museum is noted as one of the best examples of Wright’s Usonian style. The house is the only structure in the state of Alabama designed by Wright. Constructed of cypress, glass and brick the museum is an absolute must see. Aside from the major tourist attractions there are tons of mom and pop antique stores to visit on Saturdays and never visit the same one twice. Shopping is spectacular, the canoeing is adventurous. There are aquariums, zoos, state parks, Civil War reenactments; the list goes on and on.
Let us not forget the main advantage of travel in the first place. I’m talking about the food. From Alabama’s succulent ribs from Dreamland to a slice of hardy pie at Sweet Potato Heaven you most certainly won’t leave the state hungry. Aside from the many famed restaurants Alabama offers up an array of food festivals throughout the year. There is the Alabama Food Festival held in July in Birmingham. German Sausage Festival is so popular it comes around twice a year once in late March and again in October. Huntsville’s Whistlestop Festival & Rocket City Barbecue Cook-off held in early May is the closest place to heaven on this earth.
