As a key leader in the pharmacy department, you will have direct oversight of inpatient services, ensuring the safe, effective, and compliant distribution of medications while providing essential clinical support to medical teams across various hospital departments, including Emergency, ICU, OB/Nursery, and Surgery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily workflow of the inpatient pharmacy, ensuring high standards of clinical pharmacy services.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and mentor pharmacy technicians with a focus on inpatient and acute care services.
  • Review and verify medication orders for safety, accuracy, and clinical appropriateness.
  • Provide medication counseling to patients and serve as a trusted resource for medical and nursing staff.
  • Maintain and update clinical policies and procedures for inpatient pharmacy operations.
  • Engage and train new pharmacists and technicians to ensure adherence to inpatient protocols.
  • Assess and document staff competency, ensuring training and production records are current.
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Manager and Outpatient Pharmacy Lead to provide critical feedback and education for pharmacy staff.
  • Ensure consistency and collaboration of inpatient pharmacy services across the health system.
  • Serve as the Pharmacy Lead for the Antimicrobial Stewardship Program, playing a key role in infection control and medication management.
  • Actively participate in hospital committees, including the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee.
  • Assist in Quality Assurance and Process Improvement (QAPI) monitoring and reporting.
  • Provide pharmacy coverage in outpatient, infusion, and village clinic settings when necessary.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    This position provides direct supervision to:

  • Advanced Pharmacy Technician Roles
  • Pharmacy Technician Consortium Lead
  • Intravenous Medication Technician
  • Outpatient Pharmacy Lead Technician
  • Senior Pharmacy Buyer and Pharmacy Vaccine Coordinator

    Required Qualifications:

  • PharmD or Bachelor of Pharmacy degree.
  • Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in any U.S. state.
  • Ability to obtain an Alaska pharmacist license (not required at hire but must be obtained).
  • BLS and ACLS certification (must be obtained within one year of hire).
  • Minimum 3 years of hospital pharmacy experience OR PGY1 Residency + 1 year of hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Strong knowledge of USP 797 and 800 standards and expertise in sterile compounding and hazardous drug handling.
  • Expertise in pharmacokinetics, drug interactions, and therapeutic decision-making.
  • Advanced knowledge of state and federal pharmacy regulations.
  • Proven leadership experience in staff training, competency assessments, and pharmacy operations management.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity hospital setting while making critical clinical decisions.
  • Proficiency with hospital pharmacy software, EHR systems, and automated dispensing equipment.

    Preferred Experience:

  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited pharmacy residency program.
  • Prior experience managing pharmacy quality improvement initiatives.
  • Previous involvement in pharmacy hiring, training, and technician development programs.
